Accountable leadership starts with listening.
I'm running to bring an accessible, practical and independent voice to Whitby Council. One that listens to residents, asks questions, advocates for North Ward and works collaboratively to deliver results

Meet Jay White

North Ward Neighbour. Business Owner. Community Advocate

Local Roots

As a North Ward resident, husband, father and local business owner, my connection to this community is both personal and professional.

My family and I built our home here, our children attend local schools, and I operate my business within the community. North Whitby isn't simply where we live, it's where we've chosen to build our lives and our future.

Professional Experience

With 22 years of experience in construction and project management, I have built my career around managing budgets, coordinating complex projects, solving problems and working effectively with clients, teams and stakeholders. As a business owner, I also understand the importance of financial responsibility, planning ahead and being accountable for results. These experiences have shaped a practical, collaborative approach to leadership that I believe translates well to public service.

Community Committment

I currently serve on a Town advisory committee and remain actively involved in local youth sports as both a coach and team sponsor. These experiences have reinforced the importance of being involved, working with others and contributing to the community we call home.

"North Ward is more than just where I live, raise my family and work. It is a community built on strong character, rich history and the quality of life that attracted my family here years ago."

Core Values

The principles behind my approach to local representation.

JAYEASTPRO2024-64.jpg

Clear and open communication builds trust. Residents deserve to understand the decisions being made at Town Hall, the reasoning behind them, and how those decisions affect their community.

Transparency
Accountability

Public service comes with a responsibility to residents. That means asking questions, respecting taxpayer dollars, following through on commitments and being prepared to stand behind the decisions we make.

Good representation requires honesty, fairness and respect. I believe decisions should be guided by what best serves the community, even when that means making difficult choices.

Integrity

My Commitment: To serve North Whitby residents by listening first, advocating effectively and making practical decisions that reflect the needs and priorities of our community.

Priorities for North Ward

01

Community Safety

Safer streets, stronger prevention and support for community-based solutions.

As a resident, parent and current member of the Whitby Roadwatch Committee, I understand the concerns that many residents have expressed regarding traffic safety, property crime and general neighbourhood security.

I am committed to advocating for practical solutions, supporting preventive measures and working collaboratively with residents and community partners to ensure that North Whitby remains a safe and welcoming place to live, work and raise a family.

Fiscal Responsibility

Ensuring every tax dollar delivers value for residents.

The national cost of living has continued to rise, and residents across Whitby are feeling that impact. At a time when every dollar matters, it is essential that municipal tax dollars are spent responsibly, efficiently and with true accountability.

With 22 years of experience in business, managing budgets and complex projects, forecasting and value engineering, I understand the importance of making informed decisions and maximizing value. As your Town Councillor, I will advocate for responsible spending, transparent decision-making and ensuring that residents receive the greatest benefit from every tax dollar invested in our community.

03

Responsible Growth

Planning growth responsibly while protecting infrastructure and quality of life.

Whitby has experienced significant growth in recent years and North Ward is at the center of it. As development in the community continues, we must ensure it is planned responsibly, supported by appropriate infrastructure, and guided by the needs of existing residents while preserving the character that makes our community unique.

The last few years have been about growth. The next four years need to be about balancing growth with infrastructure, development with affordability, and progress with the unique quality of life that residents expect and deserve.

Support for Local Business

Helping local businesses grow and succeed in Whitby.

As a local business owner, I understand firsthand the challenges and opportunities that small businesses face. Local businesses create jobs, support families and play a vital role in the success of the community.

I believe that Whitby should be a place where entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized business owners can grow and succeed. By supporting business-friendly policies, streamlining processes where possible and encouraging local investment, we can strengthen our economy while preserving the community focused character that makes North Whitby unique.

Accessible Government

Open communication, accountability, and resident-focused decision making.

Residents deserve a council that is accessible, transparent and accountable. I believe elected officials should listen first, communicate openly and remain connected to the communities they serve.

As your representative, I will be approachable, responsive and committed to ensuring residents have a voice in the decisions that shape our community. My commitment is simple: to remain accessible, communicate openly, and always put the interest of Whitby residents first.

Protecting Neighbourhood Character & Quality of Life in the North Ward.

Preserving the charm, heritage and quality of life that makes North Whitby unique.

North Whitby's identity is rooted in its rich history, agricultural heritage, vibrant neighbourhoods and growing community amenities.

As our community continues to grow, we must ensure that development is balanced with preserving the character, green spaces and quality of life that residents value and expect.
